Volunteering as a way of life
Volunteering for social causes is a relatively new trend among the youth in India.Volunteering implies devoting personal time on a regular basis for making thingsbetter for the underprivileged around us. This can include teaching agroup of children on weekends, raising funds for a cause, spreading awareness about a social issue, etc.
Volunteering starts with an individual and more importantly than having sufficient time or money, it is the self-realization which is more important for the individual, that our tensions and worries in day to day modern lives are almost nothing compared to the difficulties faced by people who don't have enough to eat, who don't have sufficient clothes to wear, who don'thave a roof to sleep.Volunteering requires humility to appreciate the fact, that whatever has been bestowed to us is much morethan many others who are lesser privileged, and we should come forward to make their lives better in whatever way we can. Unless we have the realization that there is more to life than just being engrossed in grooming our own lives, we won't be able to truly commit to a cause. Volunteering requires one to believe that a good quality of life is abasic right of every human being, and it is our duty to take thenecessary actions to achieve this purpose.
Volunteering calls for looking beyond our personal and professional lives. One needs tosee life in a different perspective where just "enjoying life" and"earning more and spending more" in this fast-paced, materialistic and consumer-driven society shouldn't dictate our lives, especially when there are so many people around us who are struggling for the basic necessities on a day to day basis.
Volunteering becomes achoice where one decides to espouse a different lifestyle aiming for a simpler life and making out more time for lending a helping hand toothers, being aware that our needs and desires will always be endless, and one has to draw a line as how far one wants to go in pursuit of personal success in the limited time span.
Being passionate about volunteering involves realigning our career, goals, personal and professional lives to ensure that one is able to contribute regularly towards making a difference in the lives of less fortunate ones.Volunteering in the long run doesn't remain a 2-3 hours weekend activity but slowly transforms to become a way of life!
