Republic Day'10 at Disha and Unnati
"Happi Republik day guys" – we woke up to a foggy day at 7 in the morning with this message. Our insomniac Doctor Munish
was up and running and had just come back from a jog when he decided to
send this good morning message – this after three days of travel and no
sleep!
Well, the energy had to transmit and it did – we found Dinesh at Disha – the first man there at 7.40. Soon there were about 15 volunteers and the number kept increasing. While a few of us were trying our hands at decorating the place, there were others who braved the fog and were leveling and decorating the place for the race track! And then there was another bunch - those putting up the flag pole, and right from digging up the place to hoisting the flag pole upright, there was frantic activity. In a matter of two hours, the place was decked up and the kids were excited to perform, participate and have fun.
It was good to see people from local community join in the celebrations. The Tri-color was proudly unfurled with loud slogans like " Bharat Mata ki Jai" followed by rendition of the national anthem. The children then sang a few patriotic songs as a mark of respect. The much awaited dance performance soon followed. The dance team of Mansi, Tejaswi, Shivani, Nandita and Anamika had worked hard over the past one week to ensure the kids tapped in on the numbers in sync, and boy - the kids really did shake a leg! Little Kareena was literally the show stopper with even Poonam Ma'am cheering her on.
Shivani could not come for the event as she was unwell, but she would've been proud to see the kids perform so well..!
What followed was a series of Lemon races - (Age no bar) - definitely the craziest part of the day, which saw nervous laughter, anxiety, and a whole lot of fun for the audience :-)
While the kids ran for glory, it was a tough task for our volunteers, and they could be seen scrambling for the finish line - some seemed like PROs while others could barely keep the spoon in their mouth :-)
And none of this drained out any bit of energy out of the kids - they were eager to draw and color and express themselves on the canvas. The drawing competition saw a huge participation, with even volunteers picking up the colors! The kids used their imagination to come up with flowers, flag, houses, mountains, rivers, trees, animals - in some cases, all in one canvas!
After a fun filled day's work, the the kids were treated to samosas and ladoos - thanks to Dinesh!
Finally, when the competition ended and the prizes were distributed, those who matter the most - the teachers, rightly reminded the kids of the importance of regular studies and attendance!
The volunteers gathered for a light round of snacks and were engaged by our Rockstar - Suhit! The day ended on a musical note, and even though I had to leave early and we missed out on the fun, AID Gurgaon Annual Day was truly fabulous!
A Big Thank You to all you guys who made the day truly fun-filled.
Pocket Dynamite Anshul - for keeping the energy flowing and everyone charged up !
Our resourceful ADS(AshishDeep Singh),who brought in water dispensers, ensured no one was left with a parched throat even after loud cheers, slogans, and games..!
Ever dependable Shankar Bhai - for keeping the place alive with some really good numbers on your Audio system!
Sahu Bhai - for all the slogans, energy, and making the task of Flag Pole hoisting seem so easy!
Shailendra Ji - for guiding the kids and decorating the race track!
Dance Team - for putting up a really awesome show with kids in such a short span of time!
Omnipresent Dileep - for setting up the race track beautifully, conducting the lemon race and the drawing competition!
Anjali, Dinesh, Pankaj, Prerit, Shweta - for all the decorations
Sharib & Nandita - for the impeccable Hindi :-)
And everyone who was part of the fun-filled Republic Day!! (I'm sure we'll remember all the names as we meet more often :-) )
Candid moments have been captured by our cameraman for the day-Ashish (who, by the way, was also the Image of the Day - you have to see his pic :-) )and pics will be uploaded by our online team soon!
Big Thank You To All of You!
